About Me
My name is Buddy Spohn, and I love coaching people just as much as I enjoy training dogs.
Before moving to Australia from Southern California, my long-term plan was always to become a high school teacher. As we all know, life has a way of taking us in unexpected directions. After a couple of career changes, I discovered my passion for training dogs, and now I’m fortunate enough to share that passion with others.
I bring a wealth of experience in both teaching dogs and coaching people. With a sporting background in ice hockey, athletics, and Aussie Rules football, I’ve been coaching in various capacities since I was 20 years old. Although I never became an accredited teacher, I found a career that allows me to coach people every day — and on top of that, I get to spend my days working with dogs.
Why am I talking about my coaching and teaching background? Because believe it or not, dog trainers are often more people coaches than purely dog trainers. I won’t be training your dog for you. Instead, I’ll be teaching you how to train your dog. My goal is to help you enjoy the process and build the same love for training that my first instructors helped me discover.
As far as working with dogs goes, I’ve been fortunate enough to learn directly from some of the most respected trainers in the world across multiple disciplines. Along the way, I’ve had the opportunity to work with thousands of dogs of all temperaments, characteristics, and drives — from severe human aggression cases to precision competition work, and everything in between.
